Peter and Anna Robbie

  • The Robbie family has a rich history in New Zealand’s South Island.

In 1860 James Robbie and his wife Mary arrived at Port Chalmers from Clova, Scotland. As some of Dunedin's earliest settlers, the couple had left the Scottish family farm (at the top of the Glen) because it could not support all the offspring.

James and Mary built a schist mud-brick house at Spring Hill Farm near Kurow in North Otago, where James first worked as a shepherd. The couple proceeded to have seven children, sadly not all surviving.

For the next three generations, the Robbie family lived in various parts of the South Island from Invercargill to Ashburton to Milton but always drawn back to the rugged grandeur and charm of Central Otago and the southern lakes as the enduring holiday destination.

The young Peter had a passion for mountaineering, tramping, skiing and exploring all the wonders of the region. But in later life skiing and golfing with a passion for Central Otago Pinot have become preoccupations.

In 2013 the family acquired Wine Solutions, a Cromwell based bottling, cellaring, and logistics business that now provides wine services to 104 regional vineyards and so began an extremely steep learning curve and an exciting introduction to the wine community.

  • Anna and her husband Tim moved to Central Otago to manage a Wine Solutions management transition when in 2015, the opportunity to acquire Mount Michael Wines arose. Anna bought her expertise to the respected brand (that was experiencing declining sales) and introduced a new management team and systems. She appointed a new winemaker, revitalized the brand, and implemented a new marketing program. The results speak for themselves, with Mount Michael Wines sales increasing by 25% yearly and significant wine awards received. With her family commitments, Anna has stepped back from the day-to-day running of the business but remains firmly engaged with the direction of Mount Michael.

The Robbie family is 100% committed to New Zealand's viticulture industry and its globally recognized wine's premium quality.

“We treasure the rich history here and the bountiful rewards that Mount Michael Wines bring us in one of the most amazing places in the world. How better to live the life than with wonderful Central Otago Pinot.” Peter Robbie

ISLA Reserve Pinot Noir 2016

In 2016 our Reserve Pinot Noir wasn’t the only good thing gathering momentum. So was our baby niece and whilst she only had 9 and a bit months ‘in the barrel’ her parents named her Isla Robbie when she came into the world in 2017.

We are thrilled to announce ISLA as our Reserve Pinot Noir for 2016, ongoing where great vintages permit. Debuting Gold in the Exhibition Category of the 2017 Air New Zealand Wine Awards.
